Is this BP too low??

Hi Gang,

First today is the start of my 8 weeks post op and I have lost 33 lbs!  I am so happy!  I am loving the shrinkage!

The only "problem" I have had is occasional hypotension. When heavier, my blood pressure was on the low end of normal.  I did not feel faint.

However, now I DO feel faint. Especially in yoga, when I am bent over wiht my head down for some period of time.  I saw my endo yesterday for the "after surgery checkup" and she took my bp. It was 105/72.

When I asked whether I should be treated for this, she was reluctant because "my body is still trying to figure things out since it has only been 8 weeks after surgery."  The surgeons office said the same thing at the three week checkup.  In both cases, they said get up from the yoga pose SLOWLY.

Has anyone else experienced this?  When will the sparkly lights stop dancing?

Thanks in advance..

To my knowledge that is an excellent blood pressure.

my bp gets much lower than that.  I do get positional dizzy spells.  Change positions slowly and pause along the way.  I lean on furniture sometimes until my vision and head clears.

Doesn't sound low at all.  Sounds healthy.  Are you anemic?  That sounds more like the problem.

I was 106/70 when I had my post op visit with my PCP. I had stopped taking BP meds the day of my surgery. he was pretty impressed with the number.

The B/P numbers are very good.  Since you are having symptoms, do get up slowly.  I have found that drinking more water than just the 64 oz helps.  I start the day with a bottle of water before breakfast and try to get in another 4 bottles the rest of the day.  The extra one in the morning seemed to help me during the rest of the day.  If you have a B/P cuff at home you can try to take it when you have the symptoms and see what kind of numbers you get.

120/80 is considered "normal," so you're not far off.  Mine gets WAY lower than that.  I do have occasional dizzy spells.  I added a little more salt to my diet and drink more water and that seems to help.  I was borderline high before my surgery.  My doctors say it's totally fine.

I found it took about 18 mths for my blood pressure to stabilize. Initially I had to go off meds then it still took awhile for my body to adjust. I know if I am the least dehydrated I will have issues still. I am about 106 /60. I was told they now consider 110 healthier than 120

That BP isn't especially low, and certainly doesn't require any treatment.  Your body may, indeed, be adjusting to a lower  BP than what you had previously, but 105/72 is not considered "low".  What you have NOW is "on the low end of normal", so I am not sure what you had before.

I suspect your physicians were politely telling you that you are worried about nothing.  Sort of like the old joke where the patient says "doctor it hurts when I do THIS" and the doctor says "then don't do that!" ;)

I wouldn't worry sounds like your BP is normal. My normal bp is 110/70 (even when heavy) yesterday at the Dr it was 94/54 and no one batted an eye
