What if my goal is still "overweight"?
I was looking at some BMI information and realized that my goal weight still leaves me as a little overweight for my height. It's the goal my surgeon gave me and it's WORLDS better than where I was, but I still won't be in the normal range. (goal is 150; I'm 5'2").
I know I will likely set a new goal once I meet this one and this may be all moot, but I'm just wondering if anyone else's goal puts them where they'd like to be, but not where the numbers say they should be.

If that's where you want to be and are comfortable, then that's fine.

Mine will definitely still leave me in the overweight category. I picked this number many years ago prior to my 1st surgery and I picked it because it seemed a. achievable and b. maintainable and c. sooooooooo much better than my starting weight.
Have taken a very convoluted path to get here but finally it is in my sight. As I reach this stage think that going down to my ideal body weight range will really hollow out my face and with all the other lumps and bumps to deal with not sure I want to add another issue.
I'm also relatively tall and most of all I wanted to get rid of some of my health problems that went with being so large. Have accomplished that so have decided that I can live with being a little larger than the BMI scale says I should be.
I can see some plastics in my future to deal with the excess skin so assuming that will account for another few kilos down the track.

My surgeon did calculate a projected achievable goal at my 3 month visit. It was based on my loss to that point. It was not the goal I had in mind. It was much higher and still in the overweight category. At my six month visit the goal was revised because the weight loss was better than projected. I am also 5' 2" with an original goal at160. I said I would like to get to 135 which is in normal bmi range and the crnp agreed that was attainable just an e would not want me to go below130. The ultimate decision is really up to me and my body -where it wants to be not where the surgeon says.
I'm also 5'2" with a goal that will leave me in the overweight category. My surgeon actually told me 160 would be an acceptable goal, but...I want to get to a weight that I really don't ever remember myself being.
If my goal WAS 160, I'd only have 12 lbs to goal. I still want to get to 140!

My surgeon worked with me at intervals to set goals based on my loss.
I am 5' 11" and my goal is 160. I am 17 lbs from that right now and know that 160 is not too small and I might even get down to 145 at some point. That is what my surgeon, nutritionist and PCP have all said they believe is my lowest healthy weight. They came up with that independently from one another at three separate appointments, so I feel like it truly will be my lowest point. But 160 is my true goal.
I'm not a small boned person by a long shot. I wear a 13 shoe (though sometimes a 12) and extra large gloves and hats. I am not one of those 'willowy' women, but I do want to be a slim woman. :)
The thing I have found interesting is that those who knew me heavy are telling me I am far too thin. But those who have no idea that I am a life long fatty are very encouraging when I tell them I have X amount to lose. I don't listen to the long timers...I listen to those that only know me lighter and are not having a hard time wrapping their brains around me being smaller. It is an extremely interesting difference between those that know me best/longest and those that interact with me a short time and how they receive my size. Very interesting, indeed!
So I guess my advice is to realize (which you have) that 150 is not really a good goal for 5' 2" and when you get there, figure out what you are headed towards. 115 maybe. You CAN do it...don't let those around you keep you chubby...find the new THIN you! :)
HW333--SW 289--GW of 160 5' 11" woman. I only know the way I know & when you ask for input/advice, you'll get the way I've been successful through my surgeon & nutritionist. Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
