Fruit?

I have an appointment this month - 2 weeks I think and I will make sure to ask then. I'm allowed skim milk and unsweetened yogurt (although I have been eating the Chobani 0% with fruit for months, even though it's not specifically allowed). I was also told I could have some oatmeal with protein powder, which seemed strange to me. Surely that's more carby and less beneficial than an apple or a handful of grapes...

I am a month out and am allowed canned fruit with no sugar...pears, peaches, mixed fruit.  Fresh fruit is a few months away. I really enjoy it but seldom have room after my protein.

Why is canned fruit preferred over fresh?

Mine called for sf canned as well at first, before fresh... I never asked why, but assumed it was softer?

Sometimes it's softer.  Depends on the fruit though.  I mean bananas and raspberries, fresh, are really soft.

My understanding was that just like some meats, fresh fruit can be too hard for my healing stomach.  In addition, there is the possibility of peels causing problems.  I just looked at my book and can start trying both fresh fruits and vegetables after six weeks but still must be careful of fibers and peels.

I'm looking forward to salad.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying the little lunch cups of pears and peaches!

By 8 weeks I could have any fruit/veg on my plan. I have not had difficulty tolerating any yet. I try and have at least one serving of fruit a day, usually with my evening snack (like 1/2 a banana, a small plum, or a few apple slices, etc).

When my initial labs came back with low potassium my doc advised eating more bananas and other fresh fruit.

I eat everything. Except more than about 5g of sugar alcohols or 12 grams of sugar in a meal.

I could not tolerate pineapple early on and if it is canned I always by the no-added sugar stuff.

I was allowed fruit after one week - but no peels, so I had to peel apples.  I ate peeled apples, berries, and occsionally canned peaches (in juice).  I was advised to only eat fruit with a protein, never alone.
