Suggestions for Red Robin
I am with the other French Onion Soup eaters. The thought of eating potatoes is enough to make me feel the need to be horizontal and I am only 6 months post-op. I sincerely wish you the best on your WLS path but I do worry about you with what you have shared regarding your diet from your health care professionals. Most of the things you listed I would not touch with a 10' pole.
I don't mean to question your nutritionist... and I am probably asking for trouble here... but I can't imagine why you would want to eat potatoes, spaghetti, mac and cheese or anything that carb-laden this early out. Order some chili or soup and call it a meal.
Again, don't want to cause trouble... but I've gotta point out I have nearly 200 pounds of success on my side...

First- I love your sig line.
Next, you arent causing trouble. ON one hand, the party line is follow your doc's plan. ON the other hand, most of the stuff is carby. There are only so many eggs, beans, cottage cheese, tuna and flakey fish a girl can take. I miss chicken and beef and ham
I would LOVE to see other plans have people eating 5 weeks out..but where do I find those? At some point one asks themselves, "The plan I was given" or "wing it based on what I know." I know that I dont know much for various stages. Just the plan I was given by the NUT in the surgeons office.
So me not knowing anything or the NUT?

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
Keeping in mind that I am NOT a nutritionist...
Eat the chicken and beef and ham. This early out, my doc basically had me on an Atkins-like plan. Other than the fact that ground beef made Pouchy angry (even now I have to be really, really careful with chewing it or I die a thousand gastric deaths), all of those are good.
Again, just my experience. And thanks for the sig-line-love. I am a professor of emergency medicine working on my PhD.... but I am not an MD or DO, so while I know more than a lot of people, I know less than a lot of people too... and I will always make it clear when I am in over my head...

I'm three weeks out. I'm on soft foods. Chicken, fish, and such. Today I've had an egg, a shake with blueberries, Lunch:some tuna salad, cottage cheese with a bite of fanned peach, dinner: 5 shrimp and a few black beans, a bite of asparagus and a before bed: cup of tea with milk and a scoop of unflavored protein.
I've eaten out and had wonton soup, my kids had wontons I had broth. Another time I had a side of refried beans with cheese. And I've had shrimp tacos and black beans....except I only had the shrimp! The plate looked so funny when they picked it up, the three tortillas with cabbage 7/8 of the beans. It looked just like when she brought it except I ate 1/2 the shrimp and my daughter ate the other half!
ive been out and just had tea.
ive had meatloaf at home and it was fine, I feel comfortable with ground beef.
I have had a bite or two of mashed potatoes but I will avoid all pasta as it can swell and make my tummy sick. I'm trying to add a bit of fruit for some fiber to help with constipation...with the full blessing of my program.
Good do luck at red robin
