Acid issues

Seems I've been having acid issues since surgery 3 months ago. I have been put on all kinds of PPi's and as of two weeks ago, I had them changed to Sulcrate and Prevacid twice a day. It seemed to be working and for the first time since surgery, I had felt 100% until two days ago *sigh*. Now my tummy is constantly hurting and gnawing whether I eat or not. My Surgeon has been pretty good about my care and is very attentive to any problems I have. I've already been scoped twice, first time I had two marginal ulcers and second time, I had scratches in my pouch. I called the center yesterday and the nurse told me that I'm taking some pretty powerful drugs and not quit sure what the problem could be. She did call the surgeon and let him know and told me to continue with the meds. I see him next week and I will see what other route we can take.

Has anyone else had such persistent acid issues and if so how long did it take to resolve and what worked for you. Seems the meds I take seem to stop working after a few weeks. Thanks.

First off - congrats on your weight loss so far - woo hoo for you!

Next, you say you had WLS - but which one?  Some can be more prone to acid than others - at least that's what I've heard.  I had the band and it caused me all kinds of grief - reflux being one of them.

Have you consulted a naturopath?  Or your PCP?  I'd make an appointment with a gastroenterologist - surgeons are great at cutting but no so hot on internal issues sometimes.

Just my thoughts.  Good Luck!

Thanks for the support. It hasn't been easy but, it is worth having the surgery. I had the RNY and I have talked to both my PCP and surgeon. It seems the meds only work for a few weeks and then we're back to square one. When I see the surgeon again, I will ask if we should consider a gastroenterologist.

Thanks again.
