As an obese woman, I find myself avoiding my yearly exam due to shyness and fear of being judged. I have avoided having one for a while now since I reached my heaviest weight. Although since surgery, I have lost almost one hundred pounds and I do feel good about myself, I still have that awkward feeling. I know these tests are important butt....

Just wanted to know if any of you are/have been in the same situation and how you've coped in the situation. I have one scheduled for tomorrow and I'm kind of anxious about the whole idea. I know it's an important test and I just have to pucker up and do it.

I was at 392 at my heaviest.  I have always gone to my yearly.  My OB is actually the one that got me back on track.  She was with me through my pregnant with my daughter when I was 380lbs.  My daughter is now 2 and I'm one month out from surgery and can't wait to see my OB in May!

The tests are done so quickly that they are done before you know it.  Your yearly is very important.  Hang in there!  I always look at it like, "well, I'm sure they've seen worse!"  ;)

Find a female Doc!  And Go!  Ask your friends who they see and find out what kind of bedside manner they have.  I Love my Gyn. She is amazing!  She has held my hand when I was scared! She cheered me on when I needed the motivation.   I wishes she could be family doc! Make your appointment and Go!

I tell my doctor I feel very anxious about it.  I let him know what I need him to do to help me be a little less anxious, like telling me what he's doing and letting me know he's getting ready to touch me before he does.  sometimes I have a friend go with me.

I happen to be very close friends with my ob/gyn and I still hate going. I don't think anyone really looks forward to it...  Necessary evil...

Also, I don't see a gynecologist for that routine stuff.  I just see my PCP for it.  I think that makes me feel more comfortable because it's a doctor I've seen for other things so I've seen him and are more comfortable with him that I would be with a gynecologist that I only saw once a year.
