What do you take for pain relief now that you are living with RNY?

Tylenol, for basic things like headaches.

Tramadol for my back pain.

Vicodin or Percocet for severe pain, like after dental surgery.

If it's real pain (such as when I broke my ankle) I get a script for Vicodin - discomfort, such as a headache, Tylenol.

I'm lucky enough to not have any chronic pain and I really only take pain relief if things are pretty bad - I've probably taken maybe, 6 Tylenol in the last year when I've had headaches that didn't go on their own ...

Yep, Tylenol as a first attempt, then I get a script for Tramadol (Ultram) when Tylenol doesnt help (which is most of the time) or Vicodin for severe pain.

What's wonderful for me is that once healed from surgery, I haven't had to take anything!  Pre surgery, I was taking Advil almost every day.  Now, no more headaches, joint pain, foot pain, knee pain...

but Tylenol if I need some in the future...

Unfortunately, Tylenol does nothing for me -- ever.  I ignore minor pain, Ultram for moderate pain, Imitrex for migraines, and Norco for severe pain.  It's a thin line to walk with the doctors, I have to make sure to be open with them so they can be comfortable that I am not drug seeking.  I have chronic pain issues though, so not sure the med issues are related solely to my RNY.

I was a little bit worried about the no NSAIDS since I used Ibuprofen for my monthlies and pre surgery I tried Tylenol and it did fine.  I don't have a lot of chronic or severe pain issues, so good old Tylenol works for me.  Thank goodness!
