surgery date 1/16/14 & worried
on 12/29/13 8:38 am
Not for this surgery, but my son needed a new (somewhat experimental) procedure when he was younger and they could not do the surgery until January, but our letter said the authorization expired 31 Dec as well. When I called the insurance company, they said that they would auto approve for the first 15 days of the following year. Because his surgery was in that time frame, I did not ask about anything further out. But you will need to see if they will do so for the first 30 days just in case something happens. My surgery had to be postponed a week due to a scheduling snafu, so don't just get it up to your actual scheduled date. Give yourself some cushion is my advice.
Good luck--and don't fret!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
My surgeon didn't turn in the authorization request until 2 weeks pre-op. I was freaking out, but it turned out he knew what he was doing - the approval was only good for 14 days when it was finally granted - a week later. The first time I called to check on it, the insurance company said approval was "on hold", because of the wrong code having been submitted. I immediately called the surgeon's nurse, and she had it resubmitted with the proper code the same day. Insurance companies are so much fun.
