I haven't posted on this forum for a long time, but have read this thread. I love the support and sharing- for me that is what today is about wherever it comes from.

It's just my husband and me this year because we decided not to get involved with extended family- mine is bonkers and I'm just not going to go there. I have two family members I love dearly, but they are involved with their immediate families. I've also decided I'm not going the lonely route, though I have in the past. So it will be a peaceful day with us and our animals, and I'm going to fix the cellar door- hubby is hopeless with that kind of thing.

Thanks, all, for being out there- family of choice.

That's why I decided to post on here - I don't usually show my deeper feelings to anyone but this forum is the only place I really feel I can be completely vulnerable and no one is going to judge me.

I hope you and your husband have a lovely holiday.

We're on the journey with you. You go have a good time at dinner, and know we've got your back!

So far today I have taken a nap and cooked breakfast.  I normally do not cook anything for breakfast, but today I made myself French toast with blueberry topic (a couple months ago I got three pounds of frozen blueberries from the food panty and finally figured out a way to use some of them) and I made my service dog Isaac and my cat Cayenne breakfast, too.  They had scrambled egg with chopped hot dog and cheddar cheese.  Yes, they are spoiled.  Seriously, though, I do not normally cook for them but it was fun to do it this morning.

I am going to my best friend's family's house for Christmas dinner.  Part of me doesn't even want to go - I want to stay home in my hibernation and feel sorry for myself - or ruminate over my loneliness.  My cats are keeping me company today.  Even the standoffish one slept in my bed with me last night.

French toast sounds delicious - glad you made yourself a tasty breakfast.

Go to your friends for dinner.  If you still want to ruminate over your loneliness, you can do that when you get back home.

I'm going to make myself.  I'm probably going to be glad I went - and if not, at least I tried to get out of my funk.

I feel that way too!! My parents and I live very far away from our other relatives so when we spend the holidays with them I always feel like an outsider. And When it is just us it is just sad because they are not really into the holiday spirit. We have absolutely no traditions since I grew up and there weren't Santa anymore and I keep thinking that I love Christmas but not my Christmas!! When I have my own family I will want to have lots and lots of traditions every year!!!
