Probiotics??

Hey all! Have a question.... I started Align probiotics several weeks ago and started noticing that it was making "things" more irregular with constipation. I drink min 64oz water per day and this was the only change to my diet. Has anyone else had this issue??

Second, I decided to stop the Align to see if my body would get back on it's regular schedule and today is day two and uh, just had a "bm" which was more clear mucus than anything! Sorry to be so graphic, but hey this is what we chose when we got RNY right?

In case you were wondering why I went on the probiotics in the first place... my PCP suggested we give it a try because I have been dealing with SIBO for three years as a result of the surgery.

I know not all probiotics are alike, I have just not heard either of these things happening with their use so I thought I would reach out to my fellow experts on life with RNY!

Thanks as always for you information and support!

Glori

I haven't had any gut issues at all and I take a probiotic every day ...   Not going to stop to find out if that's why kiss

That seems like a strange thing to happen and might be your body's reaction to Align.  I quit Align because of the cost and started taking Trubiotics by One a Day because a 30 day supply is about $14.00 vs $30.00 for the Align.

I go through phases where I need probiotics and other times stop taking them and do fine without them for a long time.

RNY certainly gave me a lot of changes and a course of antibiotics helped me at one point.  Has your doctor treated the SIBO with antibiotics?

Hi White Dove! Yes, I am on a program of Flagyl and doxycycline. Every 8 weeks I take one for 10 ten days and then 8 weeks later I switch to the other for 10 days as a way of keeping SIBO under control. I would never have even known I had issues with that if it weren't for my bloodwork. I had virtually no symptoms other than nausea. I was hoping probiotics would have helped, but like I said, I didn't see any difference except the constipation. I have the bariatric advantage ones, I think I might try those once my system readjusts. Thanks!!

I take the Bariatric Advantage probiotics everyday, not expensive, but I have been constipated on and off since surgery, not sure if it's correlated or not but I think mine is due more to the cheese I eat...

Hi Kinny! I have those too, the chewables, maybe I'll try those once my system readjusts. Thanks!
