Lactose Intolerance
This may sound like a stupid question--or at least an obvious one--but for those of you who have been diagnosed with lactose intolerance, what are your symptoms?
I Googled this and have read through some of the more common examples, but they don't quite fit what I'm feeling and I'm wondering what's going on with me.
I've posted on this forum that my fav food is my morning latte, which I make with either 1% milk or skim. I've never been a big milk drinker, but I have been an irregular latte drinker for years and never had any issues. The past couple of months though, while the latte still tastes awesome, I find myself feeling really bloated after drinking it, with my middle seeming like it weighs a couple of tons. I don't have pain or diarrhea, but things don't feel "right." I'm wondering if that's lactose intolerance or something else. I hate to give up my latte and my trainer tells me to stay the heck away from soy milk (which admittedly isn't a view that's universally held), so it seems like that may be my only option.
Plus, a latte is a great way to get in 10g of protein. :-)
Any thoughts?
The only way to know If it is the lactose intolerance or just the carbs made you gassy is to try lactose free milk.
There is 12 gr of sugar for every 8 gr of protein in milk. So if you getting 10 gr protein you also getting 15 gr of sugar - lactose or not - that is a lot of sugar in a liquid form...
BTW- you can try to make your latte with coconut milk and proteins ...

For me, post-op, it feels like I ate a balloon that is slowly growing in my mid-section and not quite queasy but on the edge of it. I cannot tolerate liquid milk but handle cheese and yogurt just fine! I have gone solely to almond or flax milk for liquid versions!
