I didn't think too much about it until the dermatologist said, "Oh that kind of bruising usually occurs with Vitamin C deficiency." Interesting, I always though of scurvy as bleeding gums but didn't really think about the other issues which accompany scurvy.

As I said, I'm taking 3000 mg Vitamin C daily now. When I missed and only took 1000 mg one day, I bruised again. Just something to possibly ask your doctor about next time you're in for a check up and going to have blood work done anyway.

Good luck with getting the iron levels up.

I have been using the Sundown perfect iron which is great.  but I have to take way more because my ferretin levels were low so i just ordered the iron plus Vit C from Vitalady.  They come in capsules, sortof the size of an extra strength tylenol but they are easy to take (for me) because they are capsules.

yes the liquid iron is horrible however as someone who has never ever been able to swallow pills when i was anemic pre wls I had to take the liquid iron several different times. I did it like a shooter. I put the liquid in a glass added it to some crystal lite and did it like a shot of whiskey. Not pleasant but not there long enough to taste it for too long. I then quickly put in a stick of chewing gum to get over the taste. Not sure if that is something you can try or not?

I had a talk with my surgeon preop and told him of my fear of needing iron again and the fact I struggled with it so in the past. He and I both decided that if I should need it I would do the infusions just for the sake of me actually taking it.

So if you can't find a pill you can take ask about infusions.

Proferrin ES is a capsule and easy to swallow. I've ordered it from vitalady and off amazon with my amazon prime it waa free shipping. You actually do not have to separate the Proferrin and calcium.

Oh I love this! The separating is my only RNY headache item! Awesome to know! Do you know why it doesn't need separation?

I order the Tender Iron from www.vitalady.com.  It is carbonyl iron, available in a couple of different dosages, and comes with Vit C added.  It is a capsule (well, the 60mg one is, anyway), but is very average size (as opposed to the giant calcium capsules).

My doc has patients take Vitron C - it's gentle iron, doesn't cause the constipation other irons do, it works well, is a small pill, had the vitamin C already bound to it so it's absorbed well and seems to get our iron levels back up fairly quickly. He also suggests we use iron rich foods before having to go on iron supplements. Get a book on nutritional values and find out what is high in iron. You can google food pages too. He also suggests cooking in cast iron cookware. The iron leeches from the pan into the food. That's why our great grandmothers weren't anemic - they all used iron cookware. Do an internet search on anemia and you'll come up with ideas you can live with.

I love the Sundown Naturals Perfect Iron. They dissolve quickly, often even before I'm finished swallowing them.

Perfect! I ordered a bottle of these. My fingers are crossed that this one will work. I've had the worst time finding vitamins I can take.
