NSV (don't have to respond, just wanted to share)
My 8 year old knows I had surgery and that there are things I can't/won't eat, but doesn't really understand the whole thing. I'm a first grade teacher at his school and he's a third grader. Kids can be cruel and while most kids think it's awesome that his mom works there, there are always those kids that have to be ugly (or the ones that just don't even realize what they are saying). More than once he's heard, "your mom is fat" or another comment along those lines. I've always said, "Just tell them God makes everyone different" and we've moved on. That is one thing I'm so glad he (or his little sister) won't have to hear anymore thanks to this surgery. Anyway, on to the NSV. I've noticed the last couple of days that when he hugs me that he holds on longer and squeezes tighter. Well tonight as we were getting the kids ready for bed, he looked up as he hugged me and said, "I can put my arms around you now!" He was so happy. *sigh* And of course, that makes me happy. It may be something little in the grand scheme of things, but it's just one more reason I'm so thankful to have had this opportunity!

That is awesome. Remember that feeling when you are 3 years out and able to eat more.
I am a single mom and adopted my kids. We are already "different". I did not want them growing up and being teased for having a fat mom. Five years later, that thought still keeps me on track.

You made me weepy with his comment!
I wish I'd done this when my kids were younger for the reasons you shared here...along with a million others.
AWESOME NSV!!!
