Every time I try to eat or drink anything with aspartame, equal, NutraSweet, any artificial sweetener, I get a migraine with aura. I even tried it recently thinking maybe I could tolerate it now but again a migraine with little sparkling lights in my field of vision.

just go to snopes.com --- these myths have been debunked over and over again

Why would you believe snopes.com and not the comments here or your doctor?  Some people may have problems, some may not, but there may be some that have damage and not know it until it's to late.

Ummm because what you linked here is a blog not a scholarly article.  My 67 year old mother has had MS since her late 20's and doesn't drink or eat any type of artificial sweetners.  She has, several times, had friends/family members try to convince her that she doesn't have MS and doesn't need to take any of her meds to treat the condition and that she is sick from some sort of missing mineral/vitamin etc.  Show me a scholarly article with peer reviewed research showing a link between artificial sweetners and MS.  Until then, I'm going to enjoy my frosty, cold, diet Dr. Pepper.

Come keep it real in R&R 3.0 Want an invite? PM me here.

Did you read any of the Snopes articles that debunked the aspartame myths?  Each of those articles are from the AMA, the FDA, and from peer reviewed medical studies.  Why would you choose to believe blog posts and stories from an internet site without first doing your research?  Also, my doctors (including my neurologist) do not believe this nonsense, either.

Snopes is a respected site that uses primary sources and peer reviewed articles/studies to prove things either true or false.  It should be one of the first places you look when you read some of these "mass hysteria" blogs/emails/facebooks posts.

Some people may have damage...but it's from something else and should not waste precious time thinking it's sweet 'n low causing it.  Anecdotal stories are not proof nor do they indicate correlation let alone causation.

Do you mean that the posters here don't know what they are talking about?  Articles like this do make sense and it gives readers the opportunity to digest the information and study it farther.  It is up to us to do our homework but this many members who have identified problems with certain artificial sweeteners,  from OH members who have identified problem with certain artificial sweeteners, can't be all stupid.

It is not an article.  It is a blog post.  I didn't call anyone stupid.  No one on this thread stated that aspartame gave them lupus or MS.  Sugar alcohols can cause gastric upset for some people just as lactose and gluten can cause problems for others.  I mean that the AMA, the FDA, and the RDA know more about the effects of this than do you.

Snopes did your homework for you - primary sources and all.  Simply read the plethora of articles available there.  Why are you so adamant at attacking me about this?  Here, I'll summarize it for you --digest this information....Aparatame does not cause lupus, MS, or neurological upset.

Now, drop it ...I will not be replying to any more of this dribble since I have written the same thing 3 times.

As already indicated, no one here claimed that diet soda gave them MS, etc... they only said that they notice negative physical responses to aspartame (and, for many of them, to sugar alcohols as well).  There is a big leap between "things sweetened with aspartame give me a headache" and the fear mongering claims in the BLOG POST you referred people to.

I also do not see where she called anyone here stupid.  Why are you so insistent that people "digest" incorrect information from a NON-SCIENTIFIC source when reputable SCIENTIFIC sources have refuted the claims?

TMI but every time I drink or eat something that has sugar alcohols in it, I get an upset stomach and most of the time I have diarrhea. It's so bad for you!!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
