Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I've never tested positive for MRSA but I do have a friend that almost died from a fast acting case of it.  I had to take all kinds of precautions visiting him and it took him a few weeks before he was well enough to come home.

So its good that you can get this treated before your surgery!

Glad you are doing okay and they are taking proper precautions to keep you safe and healthy!

I had MRSA testing a week ago because I was scheduled for a shoulder joint replacement. (Surgery postponed due to a skin reaction to the pre-surgical scrub cloths they gave me.) Orthopedics surgeries need to be extremely careful of MRSA and other infections because the complications with joint surgery can be very serious, even fatal. A friend acquired an infection in the hospital while there for a hip replacement. They had to remove the artificial hip (which extends 8" down into the thigh bone) , clean her out and then put in a new hip implant. She was hospitalized for a couple of weeks and had a 6 week course of IV antibiotics at home. The cost is well into 6 figures. This is nothing to mess around with.

Take good care of yourself!

MRSA is a ***** My mom struggled with it constantly because she already had a compromised immune system. If you are generally healthy you can fight it and it will leave you alone for a long time, if you are not healthy, it becomes a constant battle. I hope you have a good immune system, and you'll do fine. My daughter also developed MRSA on her diaper area as we believe she came into contact somehow with my mom during an outbreak. It was sad to see it on my little baby, but she's not had it again.

Now to get a little hippy dippy on you. I truly believe in the power of essential oils. I diffuse thieves and lemon grass in my house regularly, and after I started doing that, my mom got less outbreaks, and as I said, my daughter never again. I also think juicing vegetables especially greens builds the immune system.

Another suggestion, per my pedi, was a small capful of bleach weekly in a full bathtub for the bath and to wear lotion regularly, because the lotion keeps your pores from being open and susceptible.

I don't know your story, so sorry if I am talking out my ass. Just wanted to let you know what worked for us.

I too believe in the power of essential oils, I have one that kills MRSA it is called on guard, they have tested it in hospitals and it killed the MRSA that they had on a counter and it was still dead 2 weeks later. you can use this on your skin or internally iin a gel capsule, there are some that put it under their tongue, but i cant get past the taste, now this is only for do-terra;s line of 100% certified therapeutic grade oils, not the ones from the health food store shelves. I also diffuse essential oils in my house. These oils are so potent they can pass the blood brain barrier (frankincense), and cell membranes to kill viruses, that live on the inside of the cell membrane, that antibiotics can not

this company has single notes of oils like lavender, lemongrass, oregano, etc and they have special blends they make like the on guard, balance(the grounding blend), past tense (this is for migraines and tension headaches)

along with my massage school, I have been doing medicine cabinet makeover classes, showing you how to use the essential oils to replace the chemicals over the counter medicines that have lots of side effects. these are wonderful and potent essential oils, truely amazing

you can check out these oils here:

I work in health care and while I have not been tested for MRSA I expect I would test positive for it. Most people at some point in time will test positive. The stuff is EVERYWHERE! If you swabbed a cart handle at a grocery store or Walmart you most likely would find that and several other lovely bugs.
For most healthy people it us not an issue. Your immune system is easily able to keep it from colonizing. Going into an orthopedic surgery is more of a concern as the bacteria is commonly found on the surface of the skin... which will be cut and exposed to your blood supply, opening you up to MRSA Sepsis as well as MRSA in the surgical wound. Hence the scrubbing of the skin with the antimicrobial wash to kill off the bacteria and lower the risk of infection.

I have not used the scrub, but I'm guessing it is for external use only... so do not put it up your nose unless they tell you it is designed to be put there.
If you Google MRSA please only look at reputable sources. Don't wanna add any extra stress and worry.
For the best possible outcome... get good sleep and nutrition and hydration both per and post op. The rest is not really in your control.
I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

It's just the antibiotic cream they called into the pharmacy that goes in my nostrils, not the soap.  They do emphasize using the soap on your entire body for all of the required showers, though, to make sure you are squeaky clean the day of surgery.

I just looked at what the Mayo Clinic had on their site and on a site that my orthopedic surgeon recommended for more info on joint replacement in general.  I know that there's a lot of SCARY, inaccurate medical information out there.
