Tramadol now being tracked along with opioids

Since many of us take Tramadol for arthritis or other issues now that we cannot take NSAIDs, I thought people might like to know that many states are adding Tramadol, which is now a schedule IV drug, to the narcotic drugs they track to reduce "doctor shopping" and other narcotic abuse.  No, I am not in any way implying that anyone here is abusing anything.  I just like to be aware of what aspects of my life the government is tracking!

Ohio recently added it to the list, and I know from friends that it was already being tracked in New York and Maryland.  (All states except Missouri have some kind of state-wide tracking database.)   Some states also track benzodiazepines (Xanax, etc.) used for anxiety because of the potential for abuse.

I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I take any sort of pain relief or anti-anxiety in a YEAR - so at this point, I have no fears about asking for Vicodin or Xanax when I feel I need it.  However ...   I really am in a quandry about this -

On the one hand I do think *some* people abuse these drugs and not just people who are addicted to other drugs, but the housewife in Backwater, USA etc ...  I really don't think people understand what OTC drugs like Tylenol and Ibuprofen do too their body long term, let alone stronger, more addictive narcotics.

On the other hand, I do think there are a handful of people who do have daily pain and are now going to be looked at suspiciously because of their recurring prescriptions.

I asked my doctor for Xanax in June when I was due in court (not as a defendent!!!) and she prescribed 20 of the lowest dose, I still have 16 of those in my purse .... but I have friends who have repeat prescriptions and don't use them every day - some doctors do seem to hand them out like candy!

It's a turn of phrase - like NOT living in a major city ...   What did you think it meant?

Yep!   Cos any of you who "know" me know how true that is LOL ...

I hate the country I CHOOSE to live in, I hate my boyfriend and I particularly hate my kids ...    In fact, I hate it so much, I applied and am halfway to becoming a citizen.

THAT's how much I hate the good ol' US of A ....

I think you read exactly how she meant it ...   I'll be interested to read her reply as to what she thought *I* meant (but I won't hold my breath!)

No offense taken from you, Maureen
