hormone dumping??

I keep reading about hormones going all out of whack with weight loss, specifically RNY. But I can't find anything online (in my 2-second search) to substantiate this. Is it real? I mean, is there some medical study or information that says this really happens, or is it just a belief we hold, because we're dealing with emotional, food-related issues and feel crappy and crabby a lot of the time?

I ask in part because today I'm in a TERRIBLE mood. I've had a GREAT day, so I don't know why. Literally nothing has gone wrong all day, my students were great, I lost 2 more pounds, my hair is behaving... I should be thrilled, but I really want to break something.

So, hormones out of whack? Sad because it's Friday and I should be eating tacos for dinner but can't? Forgot to take my happy pill?

Oh dear God, I nearly killed my husband when he was going through it and he was struggling when I hit it--though luckily I was pretty much at our lake home and he was in the city home for the majority of my hormone dumping. His was from Thanksgiving to Christmas last year and I had attributed it to the holidays until I found this site. Mine was in June of this year and it was AWFUL!

I literally thought I was going to pistol whip someone one day out of sheer frustration--and it was completely stupid and dumb. Something that would not even upset me if it happened last year or today. But then? OH EM GEEEEE!

My thought is that during the psych eval they should REALLY touch on this--it seems to be skipped right over!

You feel all outta wack because estrogen is stored in fat and as you lose fat the estrogen is released sometimes causing you to feel all hormonal. I know I went a little nuts a few times to the point my husband got down on his knees and yelled,"what do you want me to do!? I'll do anything to make you happy!!!"

How quickly after surgery does this start? I am wondering because I am only 10 days out, and have been in the weirdest emotional place the last few days.

Within the first few weeks for me, within 3 weeks for him, IIRC.

Is this a regular thing? Maybe I skipped it, lol. I'm almost 5 months out.

Not everyone experiences any excessive emotionality post-. FWIW, see below for the info from my surgeon and my own inability to find any medical documentation of what may be an urban myth.

Thanks Lora. I read the posts below and I remember now being more emotional the first few months but that's about it.

I lucked out because I didn't have issues with feeling like my hormones were out of whack at all.  I am relieved because I was so worried that would happen!

I know three people who had it. The man said it never happened.  The one woman hasn't had it. The other woman had an occasional crying spell a few times, then felt normal.
