Has anyone used buspar for anxiety? How did it affect weight? Gain? Loss? Neutral?

I am a classic worrywart.  My dr. has me on Effexor, which is good.  Zoloft was by far the best medication for me because it really helped me with my worrying. Effexor is good but not as good as Zoloft. The problem is that Zoloft really put the weight on me.  My dr. wrote me a presciption for Buspar (anti-anxiety medication-but it is not addictive like the benziodiapenes).  My biggest fear is weight gain. I am only 7 months out so I want to take full advantage of this "honeymoon period" and lose as much as possible. He said that he has not seen weight gain with it in his patients. I am thinking that adding the buspar will help with my worrying so that I get the same effect as Zoloft.

I wanted to know if anyone has tried it and how if affected their weight, if at all. Effexor has been weight neutral for me.

Thank you so much for your help!

Pam

I have anxiety, always have. My doc put me on Buspar and it didn't do a thing for me - weight wise or anxiety wise.  That's not to say it won't help your anxiety though. I take Clonazapam for my anxiety and, for me, it's the only answer. I only take one a day, if that. Best of luck!  I know what it's like to live with depression and anxiety. You'll find the right fit for you.

Doesn't affect me negatively, either.

My mental health is worth far more than the risk of weight gain. I take abilify and the depo shot (I count it as a psych med - pretty severe pmdd) and they both can cause weight gain. Depends on your priorities, I guess.

Based on the info from my Psychopharmacology course for my doctorate, Busapr is weight neutral.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
