Your experience. Is it worth it?
I would do it again, and I'm not that far out yet. I feel like I'm still in the hard, learning stage, where your food is SO limited and protein shakes are plentiful. Even with all of the struggles at the moment, I couldn't be happier! Even though my whole life has changed, I'd do it again!
My journey: http://avabyrd.wordpress.com/
I am only 7 weeks out but would do it again in a heartbeat. I think you get out of it what you put in, in the long run. I love that this has helped me to change my thought process about food in addition to the weight its helping me lose. I do however recommend that you DO what YOU think is the right thing for you even if it means traveling.
Good luck with whatever your choice is.
I had my surgery almost 4 years ago....and I would do it again in a heart beat!! I was up 15 pounds from my lowest weight but I wasn't eating as healthy as I should have been.... I have started tracking my food and have already lost 5 of the 15 pounds so this is def a surgery and a life style change I would recommend!
Yes, without a doubt I'd do it again. The first month or so is very rough, and so is learning "proportion sizes", water intake, vitamins (religiously), counting carbs and protein (I use MyFitnessPal online to help) but once again, the surgery is only a tool. You must revamp your whole life.
Only downfall is not being able to eat specific foods - your pouch decides what it will tolerate. Recognize the signs your body sends you and you won't have any trouble.

I want DS. The catch? No one in my state will do it that takes my insurance (Medicare/medicaid). One does it only as a revision from RNY. Most the others are strongly against DS. So it looks like I'm going to be getting a RNY.
But I've heard so much bad stuff - people gaining all their weight back, dumping syndrome with eating most foods, stuff like that. Should I still get the RNY? I have a BMI of 60, something has to give. If you had it to do all over again, would you?
with a BMI of 60, i would fight for the DS, travel for it, swim hell and high water for it. at your size it's your best option. don't settle for an RNY.
i have an RNY and i'm happy with it and it was worth it FOR ME. you need to decide what's best FOR YOU. as the saying goes. think twice, cut once. please post this on the DS board. hopefully someone can chime in with options regarding your insurance dilemma.

I know that there are people who do much better with RNY than average and many that do not do as well. With a DS you have your best chance of getting to a healthy weight for you. Fight for what you need, be willing to travel and consider your longterm health something worth fighting for.
In a heartbeat without a moments hesitation. If you learn the habits you need to succeed and don't eat the wrong foods, you don't need to worry about those things. I am just over 9 months out and down a total of 140 lbs from my highest weight (about 110 from surgery). I started with a BMI of 58.7 at my highest, at the time of surgery 53.6 and am currently at 36.5.
