Calcium?
What calcium supplement do you take? I find I can't force myself to eat the tablets and I'm not *supposed* to swallow pills, so I'm stuck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I started taking calcium pills at 3 weeks post-op. I buy Spring Valley (Walmart) calcium citrate w/D. It has 300 tablets for about $8 .Each tablet contains 315 mg calcium. I also use BA calcium citrate chews too. I have to order it online. A bag of 60 is about $12 and has 250 mg of calcium each. I like the caramel and chocolate. It also comes in lemon and raspberry.
Costco carries Wellesse liquid calcium if you think that would be easier for you to take. I took it for awhile but now I take the Costco calcium citrate pills, mostly because it is cheaper.
Just be sure that you are getting calcium citrate as that is what we need. We can use the chews for the first couple of months after surgery, but are supposed to switch to citrate (which most chews are not) after that. The one mentioned above may be citrate chews because they are the bariatric advantage ones, but I would double check to be sure.

Why aren't you supposed to swallow pills?
Mostly I take generic calcium citrate pills. I also use Upcal D, which is a powder you can mix in any drink.

Calcium blocks the absorption of iron, so if there is iron in your multi (and you want to absorb it), then you need to take them separately. Otherwise, it's fine to take them together. However, the ASMBS says iron and calcium only need to be taken two hours apart, not three or four.

You aren't taking any iron at all?

50-175 for iron. Ferritin, preferably 100-200, definitely above 50.
I would expect both to be low if you haven't been taking any iron at all for nearly a year.
