stool softener - forever?

I don't know if it's iron supplements or just too little fiber, but I just don't poop anymore. Every couple days, I'll have a tiny bit - and it's usually hard.

I started taking stool softeners this week. I've been taking 2 a day for almost a week now, and only finally today saw any results (I also started eating yogurt and a few more veggies).

I know that I'll eventually be eating more normally and this may not be an issue, but my question is this: should I just plan on taking a couple extra pills a day for now? Is it pretty normal to be constipated all the time at 2 months out?

I am 7 months post-op and I take 2 colace every day. I also get between 20-25 grams of fibre in ever day and sometimes I still don't go for a couple of days and need to take milk of magnesia

So, I am not sure at this point if it is going to be for life or not, but, this is where I am right now.

I had same problem for first few months. I am at 10 months now and don't need to take anything now.

I am also taking stool softener, eating fibre cereal every morning and require occasional Milk of Mag to keep things moving. I have found that the more water I can get in during the day, the less likely I am to need Milk of Mag. I'm hoping this will resolve as time goes by.

I am 8 months out and I take 2 at night and one in the morning. If I miss a dose I am miserable.
