another Short Term Disability question
So i'm currently an independent contractor at my job. I get my health insurance covered through my fiance's work. Unfortunately that means I don't have short term disability. I'm looking to have my surgery the beginning of December and I'm dreading not getting any pay check during the time I'm out. I looked into getting Aflac, but I'm not sure what the waiting period is and what type of insurance I need through them. Does anyone else have any other suggestions on possible ways to get STD?
That depends on what you do at work...If you're at a desk all day and can take reasonable breaks to walk around, hydrate as necessary or even rest if you need then you can probably go back at 1-2 weeks if you have no complications and are managing your pain well. But if you have to lift for your job (you can't lift over 5+ lbs. until at least 4-6 weeks typically), be on your feet for long periods of time, etc. 4-6 weeks is more reasonable.

I was out one week, I could have returned sooner. Most people at my local support group were out one week.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
