Today I went with a friend to go look at apts in another city. I packed my snack and took a protein shake with me to stay on schedule. I had my protein shake first and about  3 hours later I had my snack which was lunch meat with a little laughing cow. I have had this several times as it is one of the recommended snacks or lunches on my surgeons plan for the soft food stage. I waited almost a full hour to start drinking but the moment I took a sip my chest began to hurt and I had to have my friend pull over. The sip I had and foam all came back up, once this happened I felt better but I felt so bad about myself that it happened.

Since I didnt feel discomfort from the snack do you think it was something with this that cause the issue or maybe was this particular meal one that just need to wait over an hour before I drink after. My surgeon recommends 30 mins but I normally wait about an hour.

Thanks

Sounds like a case of the foamies.  It happens when something you eat gets stuck going down because the bite may have been too big or not chewed up enough.  It feels horrible and is most definitely not a fun experience, but generally, as soon as the stuck bite dislodges and either makes it down, or comes back up with the gut wrenching foam, you start feeling better.  Make sure you are taking small bites and chewing them thoroughly.

Hi

My RNY was on the same day.

I agree with Mendie.

I have been "stuck" 2 times. Once on dry hamburger meat and once on beef steak.

As a suggestion next time take some "slider" food such as yogurt or chili. Works for me.

Good Luck to you.

sounds like the foamies, NASTY, huh!! I have had the problem if I eat to faast and notice it more if I am talking a lot when I eat, try to chew really well, I would think the 30 minutes is long enough to wait to start sipping again, good luck,
