Non-food nausea worse after RNY? Just curious...

I am 6 years out, and had very little trouble with nausea even early post-op, and this is only the second time I have had a "stomach" bug since my surgery, but I woke up this morning feeling absolutely horrible. Even water is making me sick (but at least it gets out of the pouch quickly, so it stays down). I had been queasy most of the day yesterday but have had horrible sinus issues the past few days and figured it was just my system objecting to all the sinus drainage. (My pouch seems to object more to it than my natural stomach did.)

Anyway, just curious whether others who are more than a year out find that they get nauseous more easily (in situations NOT related to normal eating) or if they find nausea worse when they get some kind of illness.

Now... back to a horizontal position for me...  devil

I have had 2 stomach bugs post op and will definitely agree that it seems to hit harder. I'm sorry your feeling so bad, get well soon

I haven't had any type of illness since surgery except a couple of sinus infections so no nausea except self induced from food choices.

I can't puke since surgery either without sticking my finger down my throat.

Hope you feel better soon. Any chance you have some phenergan laying around from one of your surgeries?

Yep, I have some (from when I was having the kidney stone issues, actually) so I have been taking them.  It helps a little. Enough that I was able to have some Unjury chicken soup.

Wishing you VERTICAL soon.  Thanks for the warning getting sick may seem worse.  Considering all the vitamin supplements we have to take, I was assuming getting a bug was almost an impossibility :)

In general (if you don't count things like kidney stones!) I have been much healthier than before my RNY.  I used to get bronchitis every single winter -- even had pleuresy (sp?) once -- and I have not had bronchitis once since Jan 2007! I have had a plain old cold or two, and one sinus infection, and this is only the second stomach/intestinal bug.   Several people at work as well as my SIL have had it, so I am not too surprised to have picked it up.

I do think the vitamin supplementation helps.
