took a tumble

Fell down the freaking concrete steps outside last night. My left knee just gave out on me. Same knee I injured just a few weeks ago when I fell on the sidewalk. I felt like just giving up on everything like my life will never be better. But today i feel better mentally atleast. Looking forward to the day when just walking around isnt such a chore.

Sorry about your fall. I have bad knees and to avoid stairs like the plague. Especially going down!! Things will be ok. Just take some deep breaths and be careful walking with bad knees . Have you had surgery yet? I'm fairly new here.

Nope...i hope to have surgery very soon. I have the last of my pre op testing on the 25th. Ill be honest i think the main reason for wanting the surgery is to help with my mobility issues. Ive alwys been clumsy before i was fat..i have flat feet. Now after years of abuse on my joints from all the excess weight my knees are shot. I have osteoarthritis pretty much everywhere. Been getting cortisone injections every few monts in my knees. Im overdue for one now. I can barely get around and ppl constantly suggest taking walks i just smile politely and say i try. I really want to smack them upside the head. But i know they dont understand what im going through. I try to hide just how miserable things are...smile through the pain mainly because of how embarrasing it is. I blame myself. I put myself down constantly for doing this to myself ....ah ive gone on to much here...sorry. thank you for your response :)

I am so sorry.  I hope you are feeling OK.  Things are going to get better and you have already taken the steps to improve your life. Once the weight starts coming off then you knees will be in much better shape.  Would it help if you wore a knee brace while walking?

I think im going to discuss this with my ortho when i go back.. its gone beyond just being painful to being unstable in my left knee so this sounds like a great idea.

Have you talked to an orthopedic surgeon about getting Synvisc injections (or one of the other brands... but Synvisc is the only one that has a single injection instead of the typical 3 injections for 3 consecutive weeks) in your knees?  It is injected into the knee to replace the synovial fluid that most people with osteoarthritis no longer have to cushion the knee joint. They are pricey, but one injection lasts 6 months.  They help some people a LOT and help others very little.

I had been getting them for 4 years. Having those, along with the cortisone injections in between the Synvisc injections was the only way I was able to get around at all with my left knee as bad as it was ****il I finally broke down and had it replaced in March because the last two Synvisc injections didn't help it much).  I just had the last one (!) in my right knee a few weeks ago because I will be having it replaced soon as well.

I had to Google the Euflexa, but, yes, it s the same type of injected gel.  It is a slightly different formulation and it requires the three injections over three weeks. (The injections have to go deeper into the knee joint than the cortisone shots and they hurt, so using the Synvisc One single injection is wonderful  in my book!)  Not all surgeons use the Synvisc One, though.  I'm not sure why.
