Dressings causing bruising??? not likely. The PICC bruising is from the insertion of the line, NOT THE  DRESSING !

Ok if you say so ! I'm a cardiac surgical ICU nurse 20 yrs----what the hell do I know !

I'm not YOUR nurse, but if I was, your surgeon would be looking at that.

But you bruise easily so good luck....seriously ??

Wow, really, I need your attitude? I think not! You may think the bruise on my arm is from the PICC insertion and not the dressing, so tell me why the bruising is an outline of the dressing and not just where the picc was? Really, you're a nurse, not an expert. and I'd appreciate you not reply to posts where I'm looking for support/answers with such an obnoxious attitude. and I imagine others would appreciate it too.

Attitude no, experience yes.

The compression of the dressing will trap fluid(swelling) and BLOOD . Dressing do NOT break blood vessels.

You posted this for support and you got it from a experienced nurse.

You would not believe the complication I have seen over the years. But feel free to do as you wish.

You post this pic and just wanted hugs? or advice?

Attention seeking?

feel free to just take advice that YOU want and ignore the rest, even if it can from true caring initially,,,,,

PS---since you don't know my background.....

Testifying as an EXPERT in court for malpractice cases kinda DOES make me an EXPERT.....

But more importantly, my initial response to you was  true caring until you kept saying you just bruise easily. How was I to get your attention until you realized how NOT NORMAL this is!!

How many people need to post before you realize this is dangerous?

Attitude?? only frustration at those that don't want REAL help.....

GOOD LUCK

I've bruised from band aids and tape after giving blood. It's actually surprising when it doesn't happen. They're usually red, though. Lasts a few days.

I swear its NOT the tape or band aid.....its the needle they stuck in your arm ! it collects UNDER tape or band aids.

Bruising is from breakage of blood vessels. So unless you get slammed by a ROLL of tape, it does not cause bruising !

Irritation and redness and even blisters from a reaction can happen.

If you don't believe me, try putting tape on your skin right now, leave it on there until morning----bleeding? bruising? nope !

Then why does it not bruise ANYWHERE near the puncture? Not where the needle was, not around it where the cotton was, but only where the tape was? Tegaderm makes me blister and peel. Are you going to say that's from the needle, too?

Blood pools and shifts and gets trapped under pressure. The vessel is not always RIGHT near the puncture but it can be. That's why we hold pressure after a blood draw. To keep the vein from bleeding too much and bruising to a minimum.

Blisters and redness are from the skin reaction to an irritant. Some people are actually allergic to adhesives and have huge reactions.

Skin can be PULLED off by tape, and bleed but that is different than subcutaneous (under the skin) bleeding.

ANY blood you see under the skin is from trauma to a vessel NOT cause of tape.

Please dont take my information as anything but help and information.
