Ok so whats the deal with beef? I have been reading my nutritional info and had my consult with the nutritionist today everything indicates an intolerence to beef after surgery is this true? I mean i know it would be a few months but can anyone tolerate lean beef?

I started very lean, crumbled hamburger cooked at 4 weeks out. I've been doing all meats since then - especially beef. We don't eat any meat dry- salsa, gravy, au jus, ketchup - something so it doesn't get stuck. Beef is fine for most of us - don't start it too early and know that it's really dense - you'll get filled up fast on it.

I can tolerate a little lean ground beef and beef roast but unfortunately steak is too hard for me to digest

I am a newbie, but do have trouble with ground meats right now.  I guess the fat content is higher when the meat is ground commercially and it sits like a rock in my stomach.  A little piece of top round or sirloin cooked in a little broth or as part of fajitas(minus the tortilla) is ok for now.  Everyone will have different reactions to familiar foods post-op so don't assume you will never be able to enjoy beef again.  What you can eat the further out from your surgery will increase with time.

I can tolerate beef, as very lean ground beef. I use it when I make chili, and have even had a hamburger (made myself) minus the bun with mustard. I do the 93/7 very lean ground beef. I don't eat much in a week, but I have had it for a few weeks now and am 2 1/2 months out. I have tried deli turkey, which is fine, but did deli ham and it did not settle well with me. Did not throw up, just very sickly feeling afterwards. I can tolerate chicken quite well, and also a good pork loin from the oven.

Couple of things I found out this week, I cannot eat BBQ sauce at the moment (threw it up with the rest of the meal-Thurs. evening) and I cannot have supper and then 45 minutes later have a teaspoon bite of sugar-free ice cream. It was too quick after supper and I threw the ice cream and supper up.

Good luck.

Dr. Felix did my bypass almost a year ago.  He will treat you right and listen to the staff they really know what they are doing.  I started out with ground lean beef and worked up to turkey and chicken but as for steak I did not like it before surgery so I really having tried it after either.

I have little to no issue with beef, but I need to chew and it cannot be dry. I have had ground beef and steak. I am very lucky that I have very few intolerances and when I do it is usually my own fault. Too fast, too dry, to much!
