Can anyone suggest a few good options whenever dining out at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant. A few things I loved Pre-op, Hot & Sour soup, Sushi (California roll in particular), Ginger salad, beef lo mein (obviously I'd not eat the noodles now), etc. Looking for high protein options (15g+) that are also low in sugar/carbs and calorically in the 150-200 range for a portion. Thank you!!

At three months out, I would order steamed chicken and veggies at Chinese and avoided Japanese.  But I don't eat sushi.  If we did go, I'd get plain salmon (cooked).  Rather tasteless.

Hubby took me out to a hibachi/Japanese steakhouse for our anniversary last month. We sat at a hibachi table and I had the soup and a tiny bit of the salad that is part of the meal, and then I ordered chicken and shrimp and got hubby's veggies since I love veggies and he does not, and I can't have rice. ( he got my rice portion ). I didn't feel too badly about eating there since things are grilled, and I wasn't going to be eating very much at a time. That meal lasted me 3 days.
I'm not sure how hot and sour soup is for us nutritionally speaking.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

That sounds delicious, I LOVE Hibachi restaurants, we used to go all the time. I like especially that I can watch them prepare it and I know exactly what is going into it. Great suggestion, thanks!

I love miso soup, sashimi (raw fish) with pickled ginger.  Any tempura veggies - they are flash fried and typically very tasty. add seaweed salad .. and I am in heaven.  Of course even 5 years post op - I still have limits how much I can eat - so sharing those items with my BF is great.   Miso soup - is loaded with minerals and good stuff- literally no calories.   A few bites of  sashimi, and a 2-3 small pcs of tempura veggies..  (I we order tempura veggies - we don't get the seaweed salad... , unless my BF gets a small order of some sushi roll and can eat most of that..)

My standby for Chinese is egg drop soup and garlic green beans.  Some restaurants have lots of veggies in it and some have none, never can tell.

I think you could do shrimp, veggie or chicken egg foo young. I think there is only 100 cal a patty and you could get the gravy on the side and not dumped over the top... Ooooohhh. Its making me hungry just thinking about it.

Garlic chicken I think is pretty light if the chicken isn't fried. According  to MFP- garlic chicken with veggies is only 230 cal for 4 oz. and 28 grams of protein. Not sure how many ounces you can eat at once at 3 months out.

I think some places also do riceless sushi. I'm not a hige sushi eater but I do like california rolls :)

Thank you, I love garlic chicken and broccoli, one of my favorite dishes! Right now I eat about 3 oz. of meat/seafood at a time and about a 1/4 cup of a veggie on the side if room.
