Vegan?
I've been a vegetarian for about 30 years. I'm not vegan, though. I go back and forth about giving up dairy but haven't done it so far.

I've been on and off vegetarian/ vegan for a couple of years now. I had to start eating meat when I was pregnant as I became extremely anemic and my doctor said it was either that or a transfusion. So, I did. I regret it now though. I wish I had known that I could focus my diet more and get more iron and protein through plant sources. Oh well, we live and learn. SO, I'm now back to eating plant-based.
I have recently read Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live" and am trying to follow the plan. Veganism is hard. No doubt about it. However, for me it is not solely a health issue as much as it is an animal welfare/ rights issue. Something I've never been able to come to terms with. So, I just feel like I am living my truth when I exclude animal products from my diet.
So, what do you gals eat? Just curious? Do you have some mainstays in your diet you can share?
Thanks for responding!
I prefer the term plant-strong because it conveys the goal of high quality food. There are lots of vegan foods that, while free of animal products, still aren't particularly good for you. Vegan brownies are still brownies. A plant-strong diet will almost always count as vegan but it's more of a coincidence than a goal.
That said, it's a transition I'm trying to make but progress has been slow. I'm a very vocal critic of "too much protein" but even I am somewhat concerned about getting sufficient protein from plant sources in the small volumes that we can eat. That's a LOT of planning and may simply be more of a commitment than I'm willing to make. Plus there's some wiggle room between plant-strong and plant-perfect. :)
I eat a "plant-centered" diet post-surgery (6mos). Have been vegan in the past and want to eventually return to a diary & meat/egg-free diet because it makes me feel the best. Would love to have more similarly-minded "friends" on this board!

I ate a primarily plant based diet before surgery, and got to 475 pounds. Sadly, donuts, pasta, french fries, chips, cookies, brownies, etc are all plant based foods.
I am doing 1 million times better on the meat based diet I've been following since surgery.
