My eating habits have been weird the last few months. I go through phases with meat/fish and other things in general where only certain things taste good and everything else tastes like crap. It started with tomatoes. For 6 weeks straight I wanted tomatoes at every meal. I ate tomato and cheese lettuce wraps, tomato and mozzarella salad, etc. Then it was sliced turkey called "Just Turkey" from the deli counter at my local grocery store. 2oz of it has 14g of protein, 60 calories, 1g of fat and 40mg of sodium. Now I'm addicted to crab meat. I dice it up and make crab salad or sauté it with a splash of low sodium soy sauce or a tbsp of teriyaki sauce and eat it over brown rice. I still eat tomatoes like they're going out of style. I like toasting some multigrain bread (half a sandwich thin or half a slice of store made multigrain bread) and topping it with crab salad, lettuce and tomato. It's weird but it seems to be working for me.

As stupid as it sounds, I have an increased love of green beans!  I always liked them, but since my surgery 6 years so, I could eat green beans every night.

This is going to sound weird, but the "food" I look forward to/enjoy most, hands down, is my morning skinny latte.  I bought an espresso machine soon after surgery and have had a ball making myself coffee.  I get 10 grams of protein and when coupled with other protein forward foods (I have a protein rich cereal I like, or I'll eat an egg and a slice or two of bacon--maybe even half an English muffin and peanut butter), I do pretty well with my first meal of the day.  When I'm cleaning up the kitchen at night, I'll look at the machine and think, 'Yay!  When I wake up, I get to have another latte!'

It's the little things that mean so much!

I love spaghetti, especially with homemade sauce and lots of meat and Parmesan cheese. It's fantastic and RNY friendly if you replace the noodles with spaghetti squash(works great on most Italian foods)

True victory comes at the very end, when you can say, " I lived, and will gladly do it again." View "failure" as a setback, and meet each accomplishment with a larger goal.

I love spaghetti squash. Even my 11 year old wants hers with it now instead of noodles!

It is had to pick a favorite.  Salmon baked, patties, baked chicken, and all the things you can do with left overs.  We, 2 of us, can get 4 meals out of one chicken.  I cruise through the sale bin at the meat department and find something, and make it flavorful.  Fresh fruit and veggies for between meals.  Right now tomatoes are wonderful and a slice with cottage cheese and dip of tuna salad make my day.  Ham butts have been reasonable and go so far.  The bone goes into split pea soup w/ carrots, onions and small potato.

Cooking is still fun.

Awesome thread! My biggest struggle has been variety, so this has lots of great ideas!

Any kind of CHILI: Turkey Chili, Chicken Chili, Traditional Chili, Veggie Chili.    If you are someone who can't always brown bag it for lunch, I find all three at local restaurants.  Including two chains, Au Bon Pain (which also makes a wonderful thick egg plant soup) and the RNY'ers BFF Wendy's Chili.  Depending on your tastes these can all be spiced up with hot sauce, 2% cheddar shredded cheese, and spare green pepper and onion.

** Confession - I live for my weekly Wendy's Chili because I will eat 2 of the crackers that come with it along with a Laughing Cow Chipolte Wedge.   It's alot safer getting my crackers in one single pack at a time.  IF I had a box in the cupboard I am not sure I could resist!

Chili is also something we can make for friends and family that WE can enjoy without any hesitation.   Great for tailgates, parties, and the fall and winter months.  Tons of protein and it freezes and re-heats well too.

Was it immediately after surgery you could eat herbs & spicy again? I was afraid hot sauce would be off the table for a while.

I love Thai lemongrass soup and was concerned I would have to give it up. Korean food is a fave too!
