I Knew This Would Happen

While I'm digging the more intensive workouts I started in August, I'll admit it's frustrating that for the most part I only lost six pounds for the month (technically, I lost eight--but that's because I dropped two pounds the day after my first personal training session and those two pounds were part of an eight day stall).

I know what you're going to say--how did you do inches-wise?  That's the good news.  I just measured and over the last four weeks I've lost:

Bust - 2" (this makes me happier than I can tell you!)

Waist - 1"

Hips - 1"

Thigh - 1"

Abdomen - 1.5"

Arm - no change

You'd think this would be all good.  Intellectually, I know it is.  After all, I'm getting smaller and I'm obviously gaining muscle, which will help me in the long-run.  But I climb on the scale and sigh when I see me in the same place day after day.  I feel like I'm putting in so much work and having not much to show for it.

It's a mind game for sure.  I know me and I can't stay away from the bloody scale (I requested that one be brought up to the room when I was vacationing in London--that's obsessive!).  So maybe the answer is the measure myself more frequently (every two weeks?) to keep my moral up.

I guess I'm just posting looking for encouragement.

6 pounds is great, and an inch on most lines shows major improvement, but you've got to boost your self esteem! Your looking better, your obviously stronger, forget about the scale. Confuse your body and show it who's in charge. It's not about how much weight we loose, it's about how much confidence we gain. You have the confidence, and the strong determination, use them, not the scale.

I'm always very happy to here that someone is fully changing there lifestyle, and going to the gym is an awesome change. Having a personal trainer is one of the greatest choices, a good personal trainer will know's how to keep us motivated, but also how to avoid sports injuries from lack of knowledge or experience. Make sure that your trainer changes up your routine every couple months. It keeps your body confused which should keep you from stalling, every couple weeks would be better, but the main thing is that your doing it. Congratulations on your success, and great job on your lifestyle changes. Keep up the great work, it's so rewarding.

First off, great work! I was just talking to some people last night about being in a two week stall but knowing I was putting the work in and keeping the calories down the weight will come off and, with muscle weighing more than fat, I am ok with it coming off more slowly as I work on proportion and toning...you are doing awesome, in my opinion, keep it up!

O honey... 6 lbs is great... On top of inches...
I am 5 years out.. I have been tracking calories, follow very good diet and exercise... I lost 5 lbs to gain it back... But at the same time my clothes fit better...in know I lost inches... Gets harder while you out longer...

That's partially my fear--I know these first 12 to 18 months are when the weight should come off easiest.  I would really, really like to be at goal a year out, particularly as I was on the lighter end of the scale (literally!) to begin with.

I know I'm doing the right things and the work will payoff eventually.  I guess I'm just impatient.  :-\

I can totally relate to you. Our starting weights similar and my goal is also to loose the weight in the 1st year. We are so conditioned to only look at weight, that we loose focus on the better health, inches lost etc. You are doing great! Perhaps you should only weight once a week - it has made me less obsessive about the weight.
