DEXA scan results (and why you need to get one rather than rely on serum calcium level)
My lab values just a couple of months ago were VERY similar to yours (my PTH was around 20, so a bit higher), so that was part of the reason I was surprised about the hip. I have an appt with my PCP in 2 weeks so I can get a copy of the actual report and see what he recommends other than getting the full 2000 of calcium daily.
it occurred to me when reading your post that it is also not coincidental that it is my left hip that is the problem. That is the side where I have had multiple DVTs in my thigh and pelvis (with damage to the valves in the veins, and therefore problems with swelling for years that caused me to favor that leg even before my knee issues), and that is the side where I had the knee injury and finally had the knee replaced in March. That whole side of my body shows less muscle strength (including in two of my gluteal muscles, LOL, according to the PT!) since I have favored it for so long... But I am not sure what kind of weight bearing exercise one does for hips. Will see what PCP recommends (or who he refers me to).
Let me know what you find in your research...

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
High PTH was my first indication that all was not well ......I had a normal DEXA pre-op....had another scan a few weeks ago - still normal but it was noted I had a dramatic drop in density....so I got in action
I really had to push to get attention from the wls clinic on this.....that is why re have to advocate for ourselves - arm yourself with info....they just dont know everything- I am sure they thought I was reactionary....I really didnt care...and I was right to push
Appointment booked with an endocrinologist - not until April unfortunately....to ensure I have the correct mix of D - Calcium....( too much calcium is also bad-heart)- so I am still taking 2000mg of calcium citrate daily
I have upped my weight lifting....renewed commitment to twice weekly sessions ( been doing for 4 years)
POETKELLY you are a wealth of info.....I sure wish the Canadian lab results were expressed the same as the U.S. lab results so I could pick your brain...lol....must be the metric scale - thats why I am seeing an endo
To any fellow Canadians reading.....I had to push for the second DEXA as OHIP will only pay every 5 years if you have an initial normal result.....if you have to pay - $150.....( I didnt have to pay)
