Migraines/bad headaches...

So I've had a really bad migraine all day long, which is nothing new for me, except now I cannot take 2-3 advil like I used to to help. Extra strength Tylenol isn't making a dent in it and I've had the shades drawn all day (light triggers it for me sometimes), tried hot/cold packs on my neck and head, nothing is working. I'm going to speak to the on-call nurse tomorrow to see what they can do, but what should I expect them to prescribe generally after RNY?

I usually take a 2 prong approach. When I first feel 1 coming on I take Tylenol Head Ache or the generic version which may have tension in the name. It is Tylenol with caffeine. That usually does it. If not, I take my prescription, which is imitrex. Both of these can be taken after surgery.

I've not seen Tylenol Headache/tension, is that the same as Extra Strength (if not, what else is in it?) ? I saw an Equate brand one but that had Aspirin in it, as well as the caffeine. I did have 2 cups of coffee as well which sometimes helps but not this time unfortunately. I will talk to them about Imitrex, I have seen that mentioned once before as well. Thanks!

It is not the same as extra-strength. It has 500mg of acetaminophen and 65mg caffeine. No aspirin. In the Tylenol section of the drug store it will be in a purple box usually. Red pills.

I take Imitrex at the first sign of a migraine.  I already know over the counter meds don't work for me and I have to treat it before it makes me nauseated.

I have fioricet and imitrex for migraines.  Thankfully I have them very infrequently since my RNY, don't know why it changed, but I am grateful!  I can only remember 3 in the last year, I used to get that many in a month sometimes.

I saw on Facebook that you can get a tub full of really warm water. Put your feet in that then pour a bag of frozen peas on the back of your neck.I have friends who swear by it

Everything listed so far doesn't work at all for me. My migraines have become more frequent since surgery and the only thing that helps now is going to the ER and getting a shot of dilaudid. I'm going to get a new neurologist here as soon as I start getting income again but for now when I'm passing out from the pain and my husband is having to carry me to the car, it is the only option and Ill take what I can get
