How much were you eating 2 weeks out?
I'm a little over 2 weeks out. I'm on purees/really soft foods 3 times a day. At the moment, I probably eat just under 2 tbsp most of the time. Or most of an egg.
When did you start eating more? Were you told to, or did you just gradually move up the amount? Did you feel hungry? Overly full?
I don't think I really feel anything. I want to eat around meal times (that's about when I get sick of my drinks and want something salty), but I don't think I actually get hungry or full.
2 weeks out I was still on a liquid diet and had to force myself to eat after the 3rd day of it. When I advanced to mush, things weren't much different. I quickly learned that a couple bites was more than enough to make me beyond full, and didn't want eat again until the next meal. I'm not sure what the exact differences are from my surgery to what is being performed these days but at 4 weeks I was still on liquids, and it seems that my pouch was made very small in comparison to today's standards, however my BMI was very high (BMI 62) so that's probably the greatest contributing factor there. I also don't know how long a typical reux limb is made, but mine is 100 cm, my pouch was less than 100 cc but I can't remember the exact number. Back to your question, you'll know when you can handle more, but you should have had a basic meal plan laid out for you. Are you meeting with a nutritionist? Stick to the guidelines of protein and vitamin supplements and in a couple months your nutritionist should help you adjust your diet according to what your necessities and deficiencies are.
Edit: also don't force yourself to over eat with solids, if your not meeting your protein quota, you should supplement with liquid protein. It's safer for your pouch and your teeth
I am working with a nutritionist and I know she'll tell me when I should eat more. I guess I am just curious how I compare to others.
My doctor and nutritionist both told me that I might take a couple bites and be stuffed, but honestly, I haven't really felt overly full, or even full yet. I often throw away a little food each meal, just because I've been eating a certain amount of time or I'm bored with what I have, but I don't fill up.
Of course, I'm not actually hungry either, so it's not a problem to stop eating. Still, I worry that I don't feel full.
I'm not sure if this is the greatest advice but I would say keep going as you are. The fine line of being full and overly stuffed to regurgitation is very small right now for you. Less then half a bite can mean the difference so I would suggest not to worry about it and try not to feel full, in my case that fine line still means running to the bathroom, and being uncomfortable for at least an hour
