Farfetched concern, but maybe not?
I know we cannot take NSAID's/Aspirin anymore, so this had me wondering today...My dad has heart disease and had his first heart attack at 47. It runs heavily in my family (part of the reason I had the RNY) and one of the things my dad did was chew an aspirin right away when his symptoms started (as is recommended) and he made it through the attack (tons of stents and he has Atrial Fibrillation as well now too). If I (or any of us) were in a similar situation and think we might be having a heart attack, what can we do at home while waiting for help if we can't take aspirin anymore? Is this one of those situations you just risk a potential ulcer for and do it, or are there alternatives?
I would risk the ulcer. Given a choice between a heart attack and an ulcer, I'd pick the ulcer any day. However, given a choice between a headache or menstrual cramps and an ulcer, I'd pick the headache or the cramps. You have to choose what you're willing to risk, decide whether the risk is worth it or not.

You can take the aspirin and live and have a REMOTE chance that you might get pouch pain (it usually takes repeated NSAID use to cause an ulcer) or you can die - your choice, I guess?
There is too much doom and gloom spread on this board about how precious we all are - we really are not that precious that we should be risking our life for goodness sake!
Personally, I'll be chowing down on that aspirin ...

"How precious we all are". LOL. I cracks me up every time you say this. It is true, though! Sometimes people make it sound like the surgeon gave us Waterford crystal pouches!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
My RNY is next week.
I have had 2 heart attacks and I have 4 stents. Dr allows Plavix and coated aspirin. I also have a supply of Nitro spray and pills incase of another heart attack. The Nitro saved me twice.
NSAIDS are not recommended but one isn't going to cause an ulcer for 99.99% of us.
