OT: High end sheets and duvet covers or comforters?

I have decided that my graduation gift to myself is going to be new sheets and a new comforter or duvet cover for my master bedroom (which happens to have antique furniture that I inherited from my grandmother many years ago).  One area that I splurge on is my bedding... Pillowtop mattress WITH an additional padded mattress pad (LOL), down or down and feather pillows, down comforters, lightweight down or German flannel blankets, nice sheets (I love, love, love the heavy 6 ounce flannel sheets from Lands End for winter use!).

So, anyway... I am looking for suggestions for where to shop (other than the obvious Macy's, etc.) for some soft, high thread count sheets and a new comforter or duvet cover.  Any catalog suggestions?  I really like Cuddledown's products -- altjpugh some of teir stuff is way too pricey even for me when I am splurging! -- but have never tried their sheets (although they have good reviews).

I have several pairs of Lands End 400 TC sateen sheets, but the pair I bought about a year ago (in a beautiful dark Mahogany color) already have three tears in them (and I have NEVER had ANY sheets tear before)!  The first one was on the side of the fitted sheet, and I figured it was probably a doggie toenail incident, but then a few weeks later, I noticed a tear in the center of the fitted sheet.  Finally, two weeks ago when I was tucking in the flat sheet, my finger went right through the sheet!  I am sending them back for a replacements (and they asked me to email them the vendor number from the sheets because they have had some trouble (hence the 2013 reviews!), but I am going to just get white ones, I guess, because of the (limited) colors they have (I already have some in cream).

I do love the 6 ounce flannel sheets  though.  SO warm in the winter, and they last for years!

Not my area of expertise but I figured I'd join the conversation because I'd like to surprise my wife with a set of sheets and a new comforter( and make the bed) for her birthday. But not exactly sure where to begin especially with a cal-king bed

True victory comes at the very end, when you can say, " I lived, and will gladly do it again." View "failure" as a setback, and meet each accomplishment with a larger goal.

Jahutton01 -  Go to Bed bath and Beyond. You can see all the beds set up with the duvets/comforters on them. No guessing on how it'll look out of the bag.  Usually in Sundays paper you'll find a 20% off 1 item for there.   Also JCPennys , Sears and Macys has nice stuff. Now if you want really nice, and expensive, Restoration Hardware is  nice.

Thanks, I will check it out.  I have never heard of them before... but that is exactly the reason I asked... to find new options.

I saw you said, "not the usual Macy's", but have to say their "Hotel" and "Calvin Klein" collections are the best. However, get a load of this little tidbit, sheet sets I buy at Costco are every bit as good, no joke. I love them!
