Crushing Pills...how long does this last?

I had my Roux-en-Y this past Wednesday and am doing well:)  I absolutely can't hardly tolerate taking my crushed pills in the evening.  Any ideas on how to camouflage the taste?  How long do you have to crush your meds?

Also, I am finding it hard to get all my protein drinks in.  Did anyone else have this problem?

Thanks:)

I never crushed my meds.  My surgeon didn't recommend it.  I was swallowing whole pills in the hospital the same day of my surgery.

The ASMBS says it's fine to swallow pills as soon as we can tolerate it.

How long does your surgeon recommend crushing them?

My surgeon didn't really say how long to crush them.  I also am supposed to open an omeprazole capsule and put it in my food for 30 days.  It makes my food almost unbearable to eat.

Apple sauce will help some, but not much.

Agreed. I would push back and ask why you cannot just swallow a pill.

I was swallowing pills within a couple of weeks, ask your surgeon. I've heard others swallowing them at the hospital.

Yes getting in protein is hard for some. Most important to do right now is stay hydrated and work up toward your surgeons requirement of protein.

I think I have been doing okay with most everything, except for getting that last protein shake in. I will definitely work on it.  Thanks for sharing:)

Try mixing your crushed pills into a small amount of sugar free pudding.  Chocolate seems to be the best at masking the taste of pills.

I was told to cut my pills no larger than the size of a pencil eraser so I split my pills that are too large and  swallow them. I add my capsule contents to the little cup with my other meds and take it at the same time.

Good luck!
