Vitamin Regimen

Well, if you've only been taking one petite, that's only 200 mg calcium, so that may not be enough to block the absorption of the iron.  Depends on how much calcium is in the multi you are taking at the same time.

But you've only been getting 400 mg calcium total, if you're only taking two of the petites a day, and you need at least 1500 mg calcium citrate.  You need to increase that to two of the petites, four or five times a day.

Take the iron at a separate time.

Kelly's correct - the petites are 400mg for 2 Citracals (so 200mg each pill). They have Citracal Maximum caplets, they're big though, not sure if you can cut them or not, I think they are coated also...The serving size is still 2 caplets though and it yields 630mg calcium per serving (2). I'm not sure what other brands there are that might make it easier to reach your calcium goals that are in pill form, but I take the Bariatric Advantage chewy bites (1 chew is 500mg calcium+D3) 3x a day. They do have calories, but no sugar, I do wish I could find a similar solution in pill form so as to avoid calories, so will keep an eye on this thread!!

I know I'm probably WAY off, but this is what I take:

Morning:

1 Citracal (Calcium Citrate + D3) - 500 IUs of Vitamin D and 400 mg of Calcium per pill

1 65 mg Iron (equivalent to 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate)

1 chewable multi-vitamin

1 sublingual B12 with Folic Acid (200 mcg of Folic Acid and 1 mg of Vitamin B12)

Afternoon:

1 Citracal (Calcium Citrate + D3) - 500 IUs of Vitamin D and 400 mg of Calcium per pill

Evening:

1 chewable multi-vitamins (1 morning and 1 evening)

Plus...

1 40mg Prilosec capsule in the morning, and 1 300mg capsule 2 times per day of Ursodiol (to prevent gallstones)

Do not take calcium and iron together. Iron blocks the absorption of calcium...or the other way around...but there needs to be 4 hours between them.

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Calcium blocks iron.  The ASMBS says two hours between them is enough.

I have low energy issues as well.  Thus far my labs have been fine but I am due another lab and hope this time it shows something because I am tired of being tired.
