too much water?!
So I never really drank a whole lot before surgery and I haven't been making as big of an effort as I should post surgery to get in all of my liquids. Yesterday, I resolved that I'd get in all of my liquids everyday for the following week. Well so far I've been keeping my word but it sucks! I swear I'm peeing more than a pregnant woman! Seriously, I pee at least once every hour and sometimes I pee, walk out of the bathroom, and then walk right back in to pee again! Is it possible that I just don't need as much water as the 64oz recommended amount?
It's possible you don't need quite that much but unlikely you need significantly less. The Mayo Clinic website states that the amount of water a person needs depends on a number of factors, including their size and activity level. They say the average woman actually needs 72 oz a day and the average man needs about 104 oz a day. now, you might need less than average, but probably not much less than 64 oz, unless perhaps you are very very small and very very inactive.

If you need incentive to continue to drink your water, keep in mind that we are more prone to kidney stones after RNY. I have had several incidents in the past 6 years, including a recent lithotripsy to blast two stones that were too large to ever pass (and never a single stone in my 45 years of life before my RNY). I confess that I had not been getting 64 ounces every day because I, too, was never a big drinker before surgery. After the latest rounds of kidney stones, though, I have been making a concerted effort to get at least 64 ounces a day. Sometimes it is still hard for me, though. Keep in mind that things like SF popsicles and soup count towards your daily total.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Because you were not drinking enough water before, your body was holding on to excess water. Now that the drought is over, it is releasing all tha****er that it was storing. You should see a nice drop on the scale soon. Five to seven pounds of excess water is not uncommon.
