Fiber

Looking for new ways to get more fiber in. Since our diets (especially early out) are so protein heavy, heavy in cheeses, dairy, and other binding foods, on top of taking things like hefty iron supplements I imagine some fiber supplementation is a must. I was doing great for the first 7 weeks or so just taking a Probiotic daily but things have been a bit irregular for me lately and I know it's because there's simply not enough fiber to counteract all of this type of food in what I eat. So, any suggestions? I bough fiber chewables but tbh I don't want the extra calories from it (it's like 15 calories per chewable and they recommend up to 5 a day, so forget that!).

I use the Walmart brand that is the same as Benefiber and it is cheap and seems to work well.

I had my surgery on 6/10/13.  From the start I have had alot of issues with constipation.  Milk of Magnesia works but its so gross I cant stand to drink it.   I think its been at least 4 days since my last "movement".  I tried doing prunes for a snack daily and it helped one week but has since not been as helpful.

Yeah I did 30 mL of milk of magnesia two days ago and my experience was NOT good, tons of cramping and diarrhea the entire day (TMI I know lol). For long term maintaining of "regularity" I'm definitely looking for a fiber solution!

I've never taken a fiber supplement.  I eat a lot of beans, which are high in protein and fiber.  I also drink a ton of liquids.

In addition, I use carbonyl iron, which usually does not cause constipation the way some iron supplements, like ferrous sulfate, typically do.

Thanks Kelly! I eat beans just about everyday, get in about 100 oz. of water at this point and my Iron is Carbonyl (it's Bariatric Advantage 60mg chewable iron). I think the problem lies in the amount of cheese I am eating, all low fat/fat free, and I love the protein and it's great way to get it in. I often grab two fat free cheese sticks for lunch and then head out to do my walk. I definitely need to add in some more fiber I think because I'm not eating any fruits, veggies, etc. hardly ever (there's never any room physically left after eating my protein :( ).

I think that's a common issue early out.  A year from now, you'll be able to fit more fruits and veggies in.  Until then, something like Benefiber might help.
