Popcorn (air popped) special occasion, OK or not yet?

I didn't see this in my surgeon's guide that I have so I figured I'd ask here. My husband and I are going to the movies tomorrow night and we usually bring our own popcorn (air popped, no butter). I was going to bring a measuring cup with me and just put my portion in a half cup. Do any of you know if popcorn is safe @ almost 9 weeks out (low cal stuff, it's about 10 calories for half a cup, and 8 carbs, good fiber)?

Eating popcorn this early out is not the best choice you can make.  I did not do any popcorn until almost 2.5 years out and then it was small portion and still is.  Not sure what the other opinions out there are, but I am sure they will agree 9 weeks out, popcorn is a no-no.

Thank you for your input - Is it a no-no due to it being a hazard however, or for some who may be triggered by it? If it's the latter, for me personally, it would not be a trigger as it's not something I ever regularly ate/craved/liked (I actually was never big on breads/pastas, etc. either pre-op)...I did mention I was planning to portion it out appropriately and listed the nutritional profile of it. I just wanted to know if it is contraindicated medically.

We had surgery the same day.  Popcorn is allowed for me, though I haven't tried it yet.  If you've been doing pretty well on things then I imagine you'd probably be okay. :)

I would say that as long as you're eating without restriction, popcorn can be a great snack.

Our NUT said popcorn is not a good idea for the first year out."'popcorn is a high carbohydrate food that rapidly dumps into the small intestine causing insulin to drop and dumping which can result in dumping "

I wouldn't recommend a new food while you are out of the house. Have fun, though!

Amen!

One alternative that Kelly suggested was roasted chickpeas. They take a bit of trial and error to make, but MAN are they awesome and you can season them with whatever you like!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I didn't have popcorn until I was 3 months out but my NUT ok'd it in small portions.  I tried it at a movie theater first and it went fine.
