MAJOR food cravings because of stress (just venting)

I have a dissertation defense next week.  There isn't really any preparation to do for it -- either I can intelligently discuss whatever they throw at me or I cannot -- so I know the anxiety is completely wasted energy, but I am still stressed.  It has taken SO much time and energy to get to this point, and this is the very last hurdle.

Work has also been very stressful.  (Earlier this week, though, they finally did get around to firing the new guy who falsified his resume.  It took them a week and a half to get the necessary documentation to verify what I told them about the discrepancies I knew about (since I hired and fired him in 2006).)

Anyway, I have been having some MAJOR food cravings.  Not just my typical cravings for ice cream or chocolate, but for all sorts of things: cupcakes, cashew chicken, cheeseburgers, cantaloupe, CheezIts... (I just realized that all of those things start with the letter "c", LOL.)

My 6-year mark is later this month, and last Saturday when I weighed myself I was one pound over my goal weight, and I would really like to be at least a pound UNDER my goal weight by the 27th, so I can't be splurging much right now. It is a little discouraging that this is, indeed, a lifetime battle.  It is much easier now than before I had surgery, but I hate it when I get these little "reminders".

I'm sure it will pass.  I'm just annoyed that I seem to be food obsessed ATM and wanted to vent.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I bet you will do fine and next week you'll write a post twice as long about how much ass you kicked during your defense.

I think it's great though that you already are putting yourself in check when you are only 2 lbs away from where you wanna be.... That's pretty amazing !!

First off...SO GLAD they fired that asshat! I felt skeevy just reading about him!

Secondly, I am sure you will do FABULOUSLY with your dissertation defense!!

And finally, while I am sorry you are craving foods due to stress right now, I am really glad you shared it here because it is comforting to know that others as far out as you still have to struggle and make the right decisions and that it isn't all lollipops and kittens once you hit goal.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Mmmm.... lollipops, LOL.  Cherry Tootsie Pops (which, I have to add, ALSO starts with a "C")!!  I actually have some in the house...  about 50 calories... a favorite from my childhood.

You are an amazing success story. Congratulations!

I guess the lesson (for all us newbies, anyway) is that the desire to stress eat doesn't go away. Great that you chose another "C" -- Computer -- versus all of the "C" foods you wanted. Hang in there and good luck with your dissertation.

Sorry you are experiencing so much stress 😔

My surgeon said to avoid foods that start with "c" and I think you just listed almost all of them! Haha!

That's funny.  The only healthy foods I can think of right now that start with "C" are cauliflower and carrots.  Oh, yeah, and cashews.
