Scheduled my next knee replacement surgery

I already have my FMLA approved based on having both knees done.  However, my surgeon may still postpone the 2nd surgery if I don't make more progress on being able to bend my right knee.  (So far, I've only managed to get to a 70 degree bend and they want me to be at least 90.)  I have two weeks before I see my surgeon on August 21st.  The decision will be made then.  While I do see the advantage of waiting, the other part of me just want to get both surgeries behind me so that I can focus on my long term rehab for both.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, I am sure you can see why you will need to be able to fully bend the current surgical one in order to be able to handle getting the second one done. I definitely understand wanting to just be done with both of them.  That is also a small part of me going forward... Since he said it takes a full year to completely heal, the first knee will be a year old about the time the second one is coming up on where I am now with the first one... So both of them should be doing quite well next spring/summer for activities (much of which I missed this year... I bought an amusement park season pass and went this past weekend for the first time because of the knee).

Good luck!

I am getting my first knee replacement 12/10/13 and plan to have the other one done in the next 4-6 weeks after that- how are you and what advice would you give me?

I had total knee replacement last year. I have my next knee scheduled for January, but it looks like I will have to postpose because of the Tufts I can Change program. I really wanted to have the bypass and then a month or 2 later have my knee rplacement as planned. Now it will be postponed and I a super disappointed. Having my knee replaced was the best thing I have ever done. Once I made my decision to do it (it sure is a scary surgery!!!) I was at total peace and I was so right. No more pain in my bionic knee. If I didn't have this stupid Tufts program (which I alread did for the lapband!) I could have the bypass in October, be healed and have the TLKR in January as scheduled.

Good Luck Lora.  I would be doing the same with your deductible met just as soon get this done now.  How is the current one doing?

Sorry should have read first.....glad the knee is doing better.  Friends that I know that have had it said the recovery was tough but they are really happy with the results.

I would do the second one now too! I found the second one was much easier because I knew what to expect that time. You will do just fine I am sure!

good decision, just do it while all this is fresh in your mind! the second one goes so much smoother , i think because you arent going  into it blind, you know what to expect and just are more prepared, no big surprises, good luck, i KNOW you will do great.
