On Liquid diet..Have had dreams of eating food!

I started mine yesterday and haven't dreamed, but thought about nothing but food all day. Went out to shop for some things and every restaurant I saw while driving, I thought about what they served and how I won't be eating any of it for a very long time. Even mourned corn on the cob when we passed the produce stand at a local farm. I even said to my husband, if you want your brain to be stuck on thoughts of food all day, just try not eating any!
I've seen comments online that some people's programs don't require a preop liquid diet and I think they are really doing them a disservice by not including it. This is your first real exposure to what your future is going to be after surgery, and it could be a real eye-opener for some people. Personally, I'm still determined to get my surgery, but I'd hate to have the reality sprung on me after the fact.
I too have the same experiences with smelling food, going by restaurants, anything that reminds you of food. I also have thought of corn on the cob. But, I know that in the future I will be able to have it again, but on my terms. Being in control is something to be proud of:)
I think you are right about experiencing the pre-op diet. It does condition your mind to a different way of eating, which should help with eating after the surgery.
Good luck with your surgery and the future:)
I am 3 weeks post op and while I am not dreaming about food I spend a lot of my waking hours thinking about food. The first week was not so bad but the second week it seems like all I did was daydream about foods that I will be able to eat some day! This last week was better, not so many daydreams... Good luck!

In my book, that's a good thing...it's a nice feeling to wake up and realize that
1. It was only a dream, and I am not eating that way anymore.
2. The food is taking a new role in my life now...where before it was a buddy, now it is a source of nutrition.
3. The cravings for stuff that is more likely to cause me to overeat are slowly going away...the farther I get away from the first bite, the less likely I am to overeat again.
4. My life is changing and that is something I can celebrate.
5. Every day is a new day to make positive choices...yesterday does not count anymore....just gotta only do today. That's it.
I hate to tell you but I had food dreams POST OP! My surgeon had me on a liquid diet for the first 6 days after surgery. I dreamt one night that I came home and my husband had made some broccolli.. (which I love) so I went in the fridge and saw it and just started nibbling on it when I remembered that I'm supposed to be on the liquid diet. I ran outside to my husband and sister and told them what I did.. My sister, who had the surgery years ago, laughed and said "Oh, you're gonna pay for that one"...... then, during the pureed phase, I dreamt I ate 3-4 of the mini peppermint patties before remembering that I can't eat that stuff.... both dreams FREAKED me out.... luckily, I haven't had a bad dream since...
