8 weeks post-op and I hate eating!

Well I'm almost 8 weeks post-op and am on "regular" foods (not soft or pureed). I am having the hardest time getting and keeping things down! I chew to the consistency of mush and yet everything seems to get stuck. Most of the time it all comes back up! I'm really starting to hate eating! Has anyone else experienced this?

I just started solids today but I know what you mean. Everything doesn't come back up for me but a lot of it feels stuck for a while after I eat, even the puréed stuff I was eating. Eating is now an unpleasant mission.

just take it slow. I did chili pretty much for the first 3 months. It was one of the easier things to eat. I know if I eat to much I got sick. So you really have to measure the amount of food your eating. I think at that point I was doing 1/2c but always something very moist. Try yogurt, pudding with protein added to it, chili, refried beans with a taco meat mixed in.

Does drinking bother you at all? or slider foods? like yogurt? If so you might need to see your doctor ASAP.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble.  At eight weeks I was carefully enjoying trying new things.  Only had issues with two or three things early out, and those were proteins that were not moist enough.  Eating shouldn't be a chore.  Of this continues, I would definitely talk to your surgeon.

What are some of the foods that are getting stuck? I am having trouble (at 7.5 weeks out) with turkey (even moist) and chicken, so I am avoiding those right now. I love beans, ricotta cheese, veggie patties, 0% plain Greek yogurt, dry edamame or cheese sticks (for my 1 snack), ground beef (lean, moist), canned tuna with a bit of low fat mayo, chili and really tender steak. If pureed foods/soft foods are getting stuck, and moist foods chewed to mush (and small portions --- like 1/4-1/2 cup tops),then you need to see your surgeon soon to make sure there's not a narrowing issues going on.

My nutritionist suggested using kid utensils at first. It might be possible you're bite sizes are too big. Another good strategy is to put the fork down after very bite and let the food sit. If you feel the slightest pressure in your chest, stop immediately. Let it sit for several minutes and it may pass. Then you can finish your meal if you have not eaten enough.

Those are some things that worked for me when I started eating meat.

If you are properly chewing everything and eating slowly but still throwing almost everything back up, it may be a sign of a stricture.  You should probably contact your surgeon's office.

I agree talking to your surgeon. You definetly want to rule out a stricture. All the best to you
