I did not bring my own pajamas because I had no way to get them on with the IV in my arm. I just stuck with the gown. I was in for less than a day. For me, lip balm, my electric toothbrush and sugar free throat lozenges were all I needed for comfort!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Long-handled tongs. I kept one upstairs and one downstairs to help whenever I dropped something or had to reach down. You will use it all the time and after you recover, use them for the BBQ -- very practical!  Good luck!

My it thing to bring was my own pj's!! After my first night my iv tubing was unhooked, still had the port just in case but I felt so much better after a shower and clean pj's! The other thing was my hubby! I was so out of it the first 12 hours I would have agreed to anything! And it was like a lil vacay from the kiddos. Once I was coherent we talked and walked!

My hospital provided toothpaste and two toothbrushes. Bring your own just in case. I was out of surgery by 10:00 am. I'm not sure what time my swallow test was the next day, but it couldn't have been soon enough. Ice chips just made my mouth stick to itself even more. I wish I had thought to just brush my teeth every time I got up. I think it would have made it more bearable.

My own robe and bedroom shoes.  It was FREEZING in my room.

Chapstick as everyone else has said.

My program gave me a purple RNY good luck pillow for the ride home.

My best advice... tiny cups! I had little dixie cups so I knew what 2 oz was so I could get my 2 oz every 15 minutes as directed. This was at home.  It was a much bigger feeling of accomplishment to finish a tiny cup.

Pj pants! My surgery was on valentines day so I wore a pair of red heart pj pants. Made me feel cheerful. (Size Xxl, which I can now fit into one leg of!)

Your own slippers.

Face wash, lip balm, toothbrush and mouthwash, lotion. Lipstick cause I'm southern and we don't let anyone see us without our lipstick!

A good book. :)
