So last night at about 1am, I had my husband take me to the ER for a migraine. I have extremely intense migraines though not often thankfully. In the ER they gave me a shot of Dilaudid and a shot of Phenergan. It got rid of the migraine but since then I have been so nauseous and i get these waves where i start dry heaving. I feel faint and food is out of the question. sipping water is hard enough. Anybody ever deal with this? idk whether to wait it out or go to the doctor. i doubt its really a surgery issue

I get nauseated if I am dehydrated. Is it possible that you are lacking fluids and setting yourself on a bad path?

I had dilaudid in the hospital (I'm allergic to hydrocodone) and the nausea went away only after I was off of it.

Also, I take Maxalt as needed for migraines.

Maxalt is a wonderful sublingual medication for migraine sufferers.  I had migraines really bad after surgery and the surgeon prescribed it like right now.  They would be gone in ten minutes.  I recommend it for the OP.  Jane

Mine aren't sublingual, but they do star to act fairly quickly, especially if I just start to notice aura.

I have trouble getting my water in when I drink plain water.. however, my dr gave me the ok to use crystal light lemonade and I have no problem getting my liquid in that way.  I agree with others -- you probably are getting a bit dehydrated so try to increase the fluids.. try popsicles, jello, and crystal light.

I was so sick and nauseated right after surgery that I ended up getting fluids twice.  Get or stay on nausea meds and drink no matter what.  Dehydration is nothing to mess with.

I am 5wks out of surgery and have had no issue at all getting in my fluids in so no, I'm not sick because I'm dehydrated. I'm dehydrated because I'm sick and like I said in the original post, I've been sipping water. I do use crystal light normally. I've had migraines since I was 5yrs old and have been tried on many meds (Maxalt was one of them) and diets looking for triggers and had more brain scans than I can really remember. Thankfully I don't have the migraines very often anymore. As of this morning, My blood pressure doesn't seem to be as low and drinking is much easier. Food is still off the table I think but I'm doing pretty well with a protein shake. I think for some reason, the dilaudid just stayed in my system for a really long time?!
