RNY on 07/17/13

Made it through with little complication. Had to stay an extra day because I couldn't tolerate clear fluid until the morning I was supposed to leave. I guess the anesthetic got the best of me, this time. Nurses were a bit to chew sometimes and well my care was also not very good either..but I survived and I'm grateful to be home.  YAY! for being on the other side of the bench

Hi, I'm new here. My surgery is scheduled for August 29th and would love to hear how others new to this process are doing. Also, wondering why you are now having a RNY after the lapband? Can you share your experience?

RNY on 08/13/13
Hi - I got the small 4cc band in 2007 and lost 130 lbs over the next 1 1/2 years. Much of this was because I was literally choking to death. I can't count how many fills then emergency unfills I had to have. It got to the point where I couldn't even drink protein shakes, so surgeon went back in, said he could reposition it, but hubby wanted me to get the bigger, 11 cc band. So another surgery for band revision in 2011. With this bigger band, I have never felt restriction, and proceeded to gain back 60 lbs and I have suffered from severe acid reflux for the past 2 years. I basically was sleeping sitting up. So I told surgeon I was done, what are my options. He suggested band removal and RNY, as the sleeve would not address the acid reflux. Apparently RNY reduces or eliminates reflux issues. So this is my story - I will have band removal, RNY and gallbladder removal on August 13 and hoping to get back on the loser's bench!! This time for good.

Thanks so much for sharing. I had a difficult time deciding which of the three options to choose but most people I talked to with the band had issues and some very severe. I asked my doctor about the sleeve since I only have 100 pounds to lose and he said that because my acid reflux is so extreme that the RNY is the only way to go to get rid of it. I wish you the best of

Yep - it was an easy decision once he told me the sleeve wouldn't help my reflux. Plus, I believe RNY is the gold standard and we should get good results. Fingers crossed. From my personal experience I would not recommend the band, but I am a little nervous about RNY cuz I only have around 60lbs to lose. But I am definitely going for it - I just want a lifetime solution that will help me both get healthy and lose this weight. Since gaining I am back on BP meds, but hope to get back off of them once I drop a few lbs. I friended you so maybe we can keep in touch. Do you have a surgery date yet?
