Hi everyone!!  I have been reading over everyone's posts and decided to join since this seems to be a great place to get support and information.  I have personally been on this journey since April and only have 2 more months of medically supervised weight loss with my PCP.  I have already seem the NUT and she gave me a plan that i am adhering to strictly.  I am in Florida and on Medicaid SOC.  I have a wonderful surgeon. I am getting nervous about a few things though.  I have my psych eval aug 5 and have no idea what to expect.  i also have no idea about the approval with Medicaid in Florida.  I am 34 5'6 and at 259 have high cholesterol and edema real bad in my legs that i have to take diuretics for.  I am doing this because i have several failed attempts at weight loss and my mother had a stroke at the age of 44.  I have 2 young boys that I dont want to put through the pain i went through when my mother has a stroke and i am heading in her direction due to my weight.  I have a great support system with my family and friends.  They support me so much, i sometime cry.  I never thought i would have so much support! So here is my question? what should i expect from this psych eval and anyone that has gone through this with Medicaid SOC in florida. i would love to know how it went for you!!  Thank you guys for your answers and looking for to everything you guys have to say!!

My psych eval was a breeze.  Basically, the reason you are having a psych eval is to determine 1. how serious you are about having the surgery and changing your lifestyle. 2. how likely you are to stick with the program post surgery so that you do not regain the weight. and 3. if you have any issues with addiction that might be transferred to another detrimental substance or activity post surgery (like alcohol or gambling).

A lot of people have addiction issues or emotional issues that won't be solved by the surgery alone.  The eval allows the insurance company and your surgeon the opportunity to determine if you are psychologically sound for the surgery and the huge changes that occur afterwards.

Don't sweat it too much!

Thank you so much for your feedback.  I a anxious to get it done. I have done everything, labs, nut, and got 4 out of six months with my PCP.  I also had an endoscopy done, so i have gone through everything that i need except for that.  I guess just the thought of psych eval. is kind of intimidating.  i just dont want to say the wrong thing and get disqualified! I also am still concerned about the Florida Medicaid Share of Cost and how quickly an answer is giving for approval/denial.

Your surgeon probably has an insurance coordinator.  You could try talking to that person about expected turn around times.
