Just wondering about the hospital process , more so before and/or during surgery, do we men have a Catheter inserted? Call me crazy but I,m not comfortable with strangers around my unmentionables

Completely unrelated note to self, need to trim the hedges

Well, I'm a woman, but I had to have a catheter inserted a day after surgery b/c I couldn't pee on my own even after being hydrated with iv fluids.   My surgeon's fellow was threatening that I might have to go home with the catheter but my surgeon came in and said that was unlikely and that the situation would resolve itself (and it did.)  He did say it is usually men who have the problem with having to go home with the catheter - something about pressure on the prostate or something.  So, it is possible, I guess.  Sorry.  :(

They put one in after they put me under and took it out before I woke up. I never knew it was in. I was a little surprised as I thought they would wait until I came around and was ready to go on my own.

I am a man, last I checked and they put mine in while I was under and took it out the next day. Got a UTI and they had to put it in while I was awake. Now that was not fun, but hay some guys pay to have good looking gals like my nurses play around down there. The male nurse helping her was having way to much fun however.

Mine was inserted while I was under anesthesia, and removed while I was still on morphine the next morning.  The vanity aspects of it were NOT on my mind in the least.  I had much bigger fish to fry!   {wink}    You will be fine.  The medical staff do this for a living, just another day at the office for them.   Good luck and best wishes to you  kiss

I too had one inserted while "under" and removed I believe the next day while awake. Not fun, but so glad to have it removed.

Female of course and my surgeon never requires them.

From a standpoint of being a nurse it's not as bad for men as women!

(Just saying)

Ask your surgeon what his protocol is
